Hen parties and group days at Kent vineyards

A day at a vineyard suits a hen party or a big birthday, and it makes a better team day out than most. There are three ways to arrange one, and a few things that tend to go wrong.

The short answer

Most groups should book a private tour. You get your own driver and guide for two vineyards with tastings and lunch, and nobody has to stay sober to drive. A smaller group can book seats together on a shared day tour from London instead, or plan its own day round a single vineyard tasting.

Three ways to do a group day

Best for 4 to 8 people

A private tour

The day is yours alone. Prices start at £190 a head (checked October 2026) and are worked out on at least four people. The Kent tour starts at Ashford International, and a group of eight or more may need a second vehicle.

Private tour options

Best for 2 to 6 people

Seats on a shared tour

Book several seats on a day tour from London Bridge. You will share the minibus with other guests, though somebody else has sorted the transport and lunch.

Best if you’re staying in Kent

Organise it yourselves

Book a tasting at one vineyard and a minibus or taxis there and back. It is the cheapest way, as long as somebody in the group is happy to do the organising.

Tips for hen parties, birthdays and work days out

  • Book earlySummer weekends and the September harvest fill first, and a group needs several places on the same tour.
  • Say what it’s forTell them it’s a hen do, a birthday or a work outing when you book. The tour and the vineyards would rather know.
  • Eat properlyFull-day tours include lunch. On a day you have planned yourselves, book a table somewhere between tastings.
  • Sort the journey homeCountry stations often have no taxi rank, so book the return before you set off. A private or shared tour takes care of it.
  • Flat shoesVineyards are uneven and can be muddy. Save the heels for the evening.
  • Check the budgetOur price guide gives the cost per head for each kind of tour.

Questions people ask

How many people can go on a private wine tour?

Any number can book, but the price assumes at least four people. Eight or more may need a second vehicle, so ask about that when you book.

How far ahead should a group book?

As soon as you have a date. Summer weekends and the September harvest are the first to go, and a group needs several places on the same day.

What if some of the group don't drink?

They still get the vineyard tour and lunch. Tasting prices are usually per person, so check the listing before assuming a non-drinker pays less.
